A distributor of portable power tools came to CleanAir to help them get EPA and CARB certification for gasoline engines built in China. Once these engines were proven to meet the standards and received their Certificates of Compliance and Executive Orders the distributor would be able to import them freely and use them in their product lines for sale throughout the United States.

CleanAir contracted the lab, communicated with EPA informing them of our intentions, conducted the testing, filed the appropriate paperwork with EPA and CARB and received the certifications all in less than six weeks. We even solved a small carburetor jet issue along the way, which improved the performance of these engines, allowing them to be used in more applications.

We incorporated EU certification into this project and the application process is underway and should be completed very soon. CleanAir coordinated the EU inspector’s site visits and is filing the application on behalf of our client. By completing the EPA, CARB and EU testing all in one laboratory setting the distributor is able to sell products in Europe, providing him more channels of distribution, without spending additional testing dollars.

The distributor was pleased with CleanAir’s performance on this project and has contracted us to perform certification on several more engines. We will continue to look for ways to apply our knowledge and provide added value to these projects, contributing to our clients’ success.
